International Conference “Creative Urban Development”, International Photo Exhibition “Urban sustainability and creative development of the cities” and Workshop "Between copyright and copyleft - the protection of copyrights in European legislation. Pictures, photography and other visual languages" in Genoa, Italy

(June 2012)

The formula is easy, but the concept is complex. What is intended for "creative city" has been discussed for over two decades. With this term are defined cities that have the ability to succeed in international competition by virtue of industries based on abstract skills, thanks to an "immaterial" production while processing, but profitable when commercialized. Actually defining what creativity is seems not so simple, as it is not always easy to explain why some cities succeed in this field and others do not.

About this we discussed on June 7th, 2012 with the Italian and international experts during the Public Conference “Creative Urban Development” organized in Palazzo Ducale – Sala Munizioniere within the European project “Creative Cities”.

Their speeches had: Charles Landry - urban planner and marketing expert, Franco La Cecla - architect and cultural anthropologist and Anna Corsi – Director of Urban Lab. The Round Table was chaired by Agostino Petrillo - researcher and professor of Urban Sociology.

In the afternoon starting at 6pm, there was an international exhibition opening in Sala Dogana, Palazzo Ducale. The 5 cities of the "Creative Cities" project brought 10 young photographers presenting all together 20 photos. The theme of this photo exhibition was “Urban sustainability and creative development of the cities.”

10 artists for 20 shots: a glance at the relationship between cities and the environment. It was the moment of international exchange between artists and visitors.

Artists showing their photos:
Marianna Nazar and Aleksandra Xellas Krzyszewska (Gdansk, Poland)
Andrea Bosio and Anna Positano (Genoa, Italy)
Franziska Schurig and Andrzej Steinbach (Leipzig, Germany)
Ajda Schmidt and Marijo Zupan (Ljubljana, Slovenia)
Máté Dobokay and Gábor Horváth (Pécs, Hungary)

The exhibition will be open to the public from 8 to 24 June, Tuesday to Sunday from 15:00 to 20:00.

On 8th of June in Palazzo Ducale – Sala Società Ligure di Storia Patria there was a workshop and discussion on theme "Between copyright and copyleft - the protection of copyrights in European legislation. Pictures, photography and other visual languages".

We had the possibility to learn from Giovanni Battista Gallus - expert in copyright, and in legal profiles of free / open source software, president of the Association of Telematic Lawyers, Francesco Paolo Micozzi – expert in criminal law, technology law and new technologies, privacy and copyright and Marco Ciurcina – expert in IT law, copyright, patents, trademarks.
